  • Rain Goes Back to Hollywood
  • by Pierce Conran /  Nov 27, 2013
  • Boards New Project With Bruce Willis, John Cusack

K-pop star Rain, who recently completed his two-year mandatory military service, has been cast in an upcoming Hollywood production alongside Bruce Willis and John Cusack. Action thriller The Prince, from director Brian A. Miller, will also star Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson and Jason Patric. The Prince will feature Patric as a Las Vegas mob enforcer who returns to town when his daughter goes missing.

Rain, whose real name is JUNG Ji-hoon, rose to prominence as a singer in the early 2000s before making a name for himself in Korean TV dramas, notably 2004’s Full House alongside SONG Hye-kyo. He later made his film debut in PARK Chan-wook’s 2006 film I’m a Cyborg But That’s OK, before taking on his first Hollywood role in the Wachowski Silbings’ 2008 film Speed Racer. Two years later he took on his first US lead role in Ninja Assassin. Rain also starred in last year’s Korean action film R2B: Return to Base.

These days a lot of Korean stars are active in Hollywood movies. LEE Byung-hun featured in blockbuster sequels G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Red 2 this year, while CHOI Min-shik was recently cast in Luc Besson's Lucy. BAE Doo-na, following her appearance in last year's Cloud Atlas, has once again teamed with the Wachowski Siblings for their new sci-fi Jupiter Ascending. AHN Sung-ki and PARK Si-yeon will also feature in the upcoming period action film The Last Knights, with Clive Owen and Morgan Freeman. HA Ji-won may also make the move as she recently signed with UTA (United Talent Agency), a prominent Hollywood talent agency.

Production on The Prince, which is budgeted around the USD 10 million range, will begin next month in Alabama. The film will be produced by Randall Emmett, George Furla, Adam Goldworm, PAK Ho-Sung, Fred SONG and co-producer Tim Sullivan. Production and financing is being handled by Emmett/Furla/Oasis and the Korea-based Union Investment Partners.
