  • Scandal Makers’ success leads to English subtitled screenings

Scandal Makers – starring CHA Tae-hyun – ends the year on a positive note for the Korean film industry. The comedy leads the box office and according to production company Lotte Entertainment on 28 December, the film surpassed the 4 million viewers mark.

Lotte Entertainment was not yet able to provide a precise number, but said it was certain that Scandal Makers had sold more than 4 million tickets in 26 days since its release on 3 December. The claim is supported by box office data from the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), Scandal Makers recorded 3,735,732 spectators before the weekend and KOFIC’s weekend box office data discloses an additional 487,240 viewers for Scandal Makers.

Scandal Makers is the fifth Korean film in 2008 to exceed 4 million tickets; The Good, the Bad, and the Weird, The Chaser, Public Enemy Returns, and Forever the Moment preceded Scandal Makers.

Lotte Entertainment decided to make Scandal Makers the first Korean film to screen with English subtitles in its cinemas. The English subtitled prints will play at Lotte cinema Myeongdong Avenue Elle (northern Seoul), Busan Seomyeon, and its Ansan branch in Gyeongi-do.

CHA Tae-hyun returns to form as a former popular singer who enjoys his prosperous bachelor life. Suddenly, a young woman and her young son show up, claim to be his daughter and grandson, and to his annoyance move in. CHA became a pan-Asian star with My Sassy Girl. PARK Bo-young is a rising young actress. She can be next seen in the romantic drama The ESP Couple.
