  • by Pierce Conran /  Nov 29, 2012
  • Busan winner invited to top US fest
Following its quadruple win at the recent 17th Busan International Film Festival, O Muel’s Jiseul has been secured by the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah for its international premiere. Set in 1948, the drama depicts how civilians were forced to hide in caves during the Jeju uprising.
O Muel, a Jeju island native, picked up four prizes for his film at Busan International Film Festival, including: the CGV Movie Collage Award; the DGK Awards for Best Director (shared with The Russian Novel's SHIN Yeon-shick); the NETPAC Jury Award; and the Citizen Reviewers' Award.
The Sundance Film Festival, which will take place January 17-27, is considered one of the most important festivals in the world. Jiseul will also be showcased again in Korean at the Seoul Independent Film Festival, which gets underway this evening and closes on December 7th.
