  • A TAXI DRIVER Triumphs at 54th Daejong Film Awards

  • ANARCHIST FROM COLONY Picks Up 5 Grand Bells



    The 54th Daejong (Grand Bell) Film Awards took place in Seoul on the evening of Wednesday, October 25th and handed their top prize to JANG Hun’s Gwangju drama A Taxi Driver, the year’s biggest box office hit with over 12 million viewers. The film also earned a prize for Best Planning.

    Yet the night’s biggest winner was surely the Colonial Era drama Anarchist from Colony, which earned a total of five prizes, including Best Director for LEE Joon-ik, Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design, while CHOI Hee-seo won for both Best Actress and Best New Actress. LEE previously took the director prize for King And The Clown 11 years ago. 

    HAN Jae-rim’s prosecutor saga The King wasn’t far behind with four awards, as BAE Sung-woo and KIM So-jin won the Best Supporting Actor and Actress Awards for their roles, and the film also triumphed in the Best Screenplay and Best Editing categories.

    Other multiple award winners included VANISHING TIME: A BOY WHO RETURNED, which earned prizes for Best New Director for UM Tae-hwa and Best Music while action film The Villainess took the prize for Best Cinematography and the Technical Award.

    SUL Kyung-gu took the Best Actor prize for his role in The Merciless while Best New Actor went to Midnight Runners lead PARK Seo-jun. The Prison won Best Lighting and late actress KIM Young-ae was posthumously given a Special Award.
