  • CHOI Min-shik to Play MAYOR OF SEOUL
  • by Pierce Cornan /  Dec 31, 2015
  • KWAK Do-won Co-Stars in Election Drama

Currently featuring in the period drama The Tiger, veteran star CHOI Min-shik has selected his next feature project. He will appear in election drama Mayor of Seoul (working title) along with KWAK Do-won, who is also in theaters now as the villain of The Magician.

CHOI will be playing the mayor of Seoul, as he faces a reelection campaign, while KWAK is set to appear as the mayor’s aide. The film will mark the sophomore outing of director PARK In-jae, who debuted with the thriller Moby Dick in 2011, featuring HWANG Jung-min and KIM Min-hee.

Having cult fame as the protagonist of PARK Chan-wook’s Old Boy (2003), CHOI has maintained his status as one of the top stars of Korean cinema, reaching the peak of his popularity last year, when he appeared as the lead of Roaring Currents, the most successful Korean film of all time. His latest film The Tiger, in which he appears as a hunter in Colonial Era Korea tracking the last tiger on the peninsula, was released this month.

Rumored to have been recommended by CHOI as the co-star of Mayor of Seoul, KWAK is a mainstay of Korean cinema as a supporting actor, and recently appeared in The Shameless as well as The Magician. He received ample recognition for his supporting part in The Attorney (2013) and will next be seen in NA Hong-jin’s mystery thriller Gokseong (working title).

Filming for Mayor of Seoul is expected to get underway in the first half of 2016.
