  • GANG Dong-won and HWANG Jung-min Confirmed for A VIOLENT PROSECUTOR
  • by Pierce Conran /  May 12, 2015
  • LEE Sung-min Also Joins Project Set to Roll Next Week

Following speculation that first surfaced a few months ago, star actors GANG Dong-won and HWANG Jung-min are both confirmed for upcoming thriller A Violent Prosecutor. LEE Sung-min has also signed on to the project, which will mark the debut of director LEE Il-hyeong.

HWANG will play the titular violent prosecutor who finds himself imprisoned for a murder he did not commit. Behind bars he meets the con artist played by GANG, whom he enlists to help him clear his name.

Following the record-breaking success of Ode to My Father (currently the second most successful Korean film of all time), HWANG is on a hot streak, with several highly anticipated projects slated for release this year, including RYOO Seung-wan’s hard boiled thriller Veteran, NA Hong-jin’s rural mystery Gokseong and the expedition drama The Himalayas.

Meanwhile, GANG has been busy following the end of his military service, appearing in YOON Jong-bin’s period action extravaganza Kundo: Age of the Rampant and E J-yong’s melodrama My Brilliant Life last year. He is also the co-lead, along with KIM Yun-seok, of the in-production mystery thriller Black Priests.

Director LEE formerly served as an assistant director on both YOON’s Kundo: Age of the Rampant and Beastie Boys (2008). Production on A Violent Prosecutor will commence next Monday (May 18th), with distributor Showbox/Mediaplex eyeing a release at some point next year.
