  • SUL Kyung-gu and BYUN Yo-han Team Up for Hit Filmmaker

Ja-san-eo-bo (Korean title), the latest film by prolific hitmaker LEE Joon-ik, has wrapped production. Featuring SUL Kyung-gu and BYUN Yo-han, the film follows DONGJU; The Portrait of A Poet (2016) as Director LEE’s second black and white film.

SUL plays real-life character JEONG Yak-jeon, the elder brother of noted Joseon scholar JEONG Yak-yong. Following his exile to Heuksan Island as a result of the Catholic Persecution of 1801, he meets a young fisherman, played by BYUN. The pair begin working together to catalogue the fish of the island and design an atlas of the area.

Director LEE last stepped behind the camera for the youth comedy-drama Sunset in My Hometown (2018). LEE’s most famous titles include King And The Clown (2005), Hope (2013), also featuring SUL, and The Throne (2015).

SUL, known for A Peppermint Candy (2000), Public Enemy (2002) and Cold Eyes (2013), recently featured in the bromance comedy Man of Men with CHO Jin-woong.

Known for Socialphobia (2015), Will You Be There? (2016) and A Day (2017), BYUN has already set up his next project, which will reportedly by the thriller Voice from directors KIM Gok and KIM Sun.

The film also features PARASITE star LEE Jung-eun and MIN Do-hui of Daddy You, Daughter Me (2017). Currently in post-production, Ja-san-eo-bo is expected to be ready for release at some point in 2020.
