LEE Joon-ik Period Drama Heads to Japan
Set in Tokyo in 1923, just after the Great Kanto Earthquake, LEE’s film focuses on the fate of 6,000 Korean men living in the city who are randomly arrested to calm the public’s nerves. One of those men is PARK Yeol (
LEE Je-hoon), who draws the Japanese government into chaos when he and his cohort, the Japanese anarchist Fumiko (
CHOI Hee-seo), confess to a plan to assassinate the Crown Prince of Japan.
CHOI Hee-seo, who first teamed up with director LEE for his 2016 film
DONGJU; The Portrait of A Poet, has earned several Best New Actress awards for her part as Kumiko at Korean awards shows, as well as the Best Actress prize from the Daejong Film Awards.
Released last June,
Anarchist from Colony was a solid hit with viewers, accruing 2.36 million admissions (USD 16.53 million). Director LEE is currently working on post-production of his 13th film
Byeonsan, featuring
KIM Go-eun and
