  • MY FATHER’S ROOM Wins Best Student Short Film Prize at Festival Anima
  • by Pierce Conran /  Mar 15, 2017
  • JANG Na-ri Animation Awarded in Brussels

Director JANG Na-ri was triumphant at the 36th Festival Anima, the Brussels Animation Film Festival, where her film My Father’s Room earned her the Best Student Short Film Prize.

The main prize at Anima this year went to the Russian short Among the Black Waves by Anna Budanova. The jury also reserved a special prize for Alberto Vazquez’s work Decorado.

According to the director, My Father’s Room deals with the subject of child abuse and a daughter’s reckoning about her father’s actions during her childhood.

JANG’s film debuted late last year at the Seoul Independent Film Festival and went on to have its international premiere at the Slamdance Film Festival taking place alongside the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Director JANG previously made the shorts Twinkling (2010) and HOME SWEET HOME (2012), which picked up an award at the Bucheon International Animation Festival and later screened at the prestigious Animafest-World Festival of Animated Film-Zagreb.

Other Korean films featured in Anima this year were Seoul Station, the animated prequel to YEON Sang-ho’s zombie smash hit TRAIN TO BUSAN, which had its world premiere a year earlier at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival, and KIM Kang-min’s short animation Deer Flower, which has earned accolades at several film festivals around the world.
