  • Berlinale Takes BECOMING WHO I WAS for Generation Kplus
  • by Pierce Conran /  Jan 19, 2017
  • CHEF’S TABLE - JEONG KWAN Heads to Culinary Section

The 67th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival is beginning to take shape, with the full lineups of the Generation sections and the Culinary program revealed in the last few days. Heading to Berlin next month will be the documentary Becoming Who I Was, which will screen in Generation Kplus, and the Netflix TV episode Chef’s Table - Jeong Kwan, invited to the Culinary section.

Becoming Who I Was, from directors MOON Chang-yong and JEON Jin, follows the life of a young boy who was born as the reincarnated spirit of a venerated Buddhist monk and goes on a journey to discover who he was. The documentary debuted at DMZ International Documentary Film Festival last year and went on to screen at the Busan International Film Festival in October.

In the Culinary section, two episodes of Netflix’s TV show Chef’s Table have been invited to screen. One of them, directed by David Gelb, focuses on the kitchen of a hermitage where the Buddhist nun Jeong Kwan prepares temple food.

Previously announced for this year’s Berlin International Film Festival was HONG Sang-soo’s 19th film On the Beach at Night Alone, which gives the auteur his third Berlinale competition selection after Night and Day (2008) and Nobody’s Daughter Haewon (2013). The film festival will take place from February 9th to the 19th.
