  • Audience Award and Special Mention for Youth Drama in Japan

YOON Ga-eun’s debut feature The World of Us continues its run of awards after receiving two new prizes from the recently concluded Tokyo Filmex. The indie film was given a Special Mention from the jury and also received the festival’s Audience Award.

A drama about the complex and evolving relationships of three elementary school girls during a hot summer in Seoul, The World of Us debuted in the Generations section of this year’s Berlin International Film Festival.

The film has also earned prizes such as the Golden Slipper and Best Child Actor Award from the Zlin Film Festival and a Special Mention from the Tel Aviv International Film Festival. On the domestic front, YOON has received Best New Director prizes from the Blue Dragon awards, the Buil Film Awards and the Korean Association of Film Critics Awards.

Director YOON is no stranger to awards, having previously scored several accolades for her acclaimed short films. Most successful among her previous works was Sprout, which earned the Sonje Award for Best Short Film from the Busan International Film Festival in 2013 before picking up the Crystal Bear for Best Short Film at Berlinale the following year.

This year’s Tokyo Filmex began on November 19th with KIM Ki-duk’s latest film THE NET serving as the opening film and ran until the 27th.
