  • by KIM Hyun-jung /  Nov 28, 2016
  • Used for Fourteen Dramas and Movies Including THE LEGEND OF THE BLUE SEA

Goyang Aqua Studio recorded the highest earnings since its opening, with USD 237,000 as of November, 2016. It has worked with 14 projects this year, including The Legend of the Blue Sea, a TV series starring Gianna JUN and LEE Min-ho, and written by My Love from the Star (2013-2014) writer PARK Ji-eun, Korean War blockbuster Operation Chromite starring Liam Neeson and Chinese TV series The Brink (2012).

Although the number of films has decreased compared to 2015’s 24 projects, the number of shooting days is 168, which has more than doubled compared to last year’s 83 days.

Opened in June 2011, Goyang Aqua Studio is the biggest outdoor studio for special filming in Asia. It is the only facility to shoot for special effects in Korea, such as underwater, battles on the water surface, ship and car accident as well as massive explosion.

Goyang Aqua Studio has four types of water pools: small, medium, large and indoor. The 25,905 square meter studio is specialized in filming of water related scenes. Its annual average profit is USD 85,000 since its opening. The studio features the top film in the all-time box office, Roaring Currents (2014), and the films such as The Pirates (2014), Haemoo (2014), Ode to My Father (2014) and The Thieves (2012) were shot there.
