  • Hit Naval Skirmish Pic Picks Up Speed

KIM Hak-soon’s Northern Limit Line, an account of a naval skirmish between North and South Korea during the 2002 World Cup, is about to set sail for some major foreign markets after proving to be a hit at home following its release last week. The film will open in Australia and New Zealand on July 16th while American theaters will start showing it the next day.

Starring GIM Mu-yeol, LEE Hyun-woo and JIN Goo, Northern Limit Line fictionalizes the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong, which saw South Korean Battleship 357 come under attack by North Korean war boats in the midst of the world cup fever that was gripping the nation. In its first nine days, the film has attracted 2.34 million viewers (USD 15.12 million) and should find itself atop the yearly chart for domestic releases before long.

China Lion Entertainment  will release the film in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Auckland and Christchurch on the 16th, while Well Go USA will launch it in New York, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Atlanta and Dallas, among a total of 13 North American cities, on the 17th.

The film will also finds its way to audiences in Hong Kong, Macao, the Philippines and Myanmar before the end of the year. Northern Limit Line is being distributed international by Contents Panda, a division of Next Entertainment World (NEW).
