The Locarno International Film Festival, one of Europe’s longest running festivals which takes place every summer in Switzerland’s Ticino region, returns next month for its 68th edition. Ahead of its full lineup announcement on July 15th, the fest has revealed that a pair of global auteurs will be returning to compete for the event’s signature Golden Leopard. Among them is HONG Sangsoo, who will premiere his latest work Right Now, Wrong Then.Following last year’s Venice selection Hill of Freedom, Right Now, Wrong Then marks the 17th outing for the prolific auteur. Joining him are previous collaborators JUNG Jae-young (Our Sunhi, 2013) and YU Jun-sang (The Day He Arrives, 2011) along with first time HONG performers KIM Min-hee (Helpless, 2012) and KO Asung (Snowpiercer, 2013). According to Locarno, “The film continues the director's creative exploration of the relationships between life and cinema with his habitual tongue-in-cheek humor.”HONG last competed at Locarno in 2013 when his film Our Sunhi picked up the Silver Leopard for Best Director and was also on the jury in 2009. Among the Korean films playing in Switzerland last year, PARK Jung-bum’s Alive came home with the Youth Jury Award. Locarno will kick off on August 5th and run until the 15th.
