  • Posters and Themes Revealed for 16th JIFF
  • by Pierce Conran /  Mar 02, 2015
  • Jeonju Cinema Project 2015 to Feature KIM Heejung, LEE Hyunjung & Benjamin Naishtat

The Jeonju International Film Festival is gearing up for its 16th edition, which will kick off on April 30th. Seeking to renew the festival’s identity, JIFF revealed its brand new ‘spring’ posters, reflecting the events’ emphasis on the keywords ‘leap’, ‘spring’ and ‘vitality’.

Following last year’s ‘butterly’ symbol, JIFF has opted for ‘spring’ this year, which represents the festival’s season, its intention to ‘leap’ forward and the ‘vitality’ of its audience. The symbol is reinforced through the primary orange color, for the season, and secondary light blue color, to represent both ‘youth’ and ‘possibility’.

Early last month, JIFF announced the three participants for this year’s Jeonju Cinema Project (formerly Jeonju Digital Project). Those filmmakers are KIM Hee-jung, LEE Hyun-jung and Benjamin Naishtat. KIM, who previously made Grape Candy (2012), is directing Snow Paths, while LEE, who was in Jeonju in 2013 with her sophomore feature Echo of Dragon, wrapped her film Samnye Parallax over the weekend. Naishtat, who picked up Jeonju’s Grand Prize last year with History of Fear, is making El Movimiento. As with last year’s projects, which included PARK Jung-bum’s Alive, SHIN Yeon-shick’s The Avian Kind and György Pálfi’s Free Fall, this year’s crop of films will also be feature-length.

The 16th Jeonju International Film Festival will run until May 9th.
