- 2nd Green Film Festival in Seoul opens

- The second edition of the Green Film Festival in Seoul opened on Thursday, September 8 with a screening of a specially-commissioned digital work by Abbas Kiarostami. Titled Roads of Kiarostami, the 32-minutework consisted of shots of photographs taken by Kiarostami in previous years that captures roads running through various landscapes, plus recently-shot footage that is screened with voice-over narration by the director. The director himself was present at the opening ceremony and will also be giving a master class on September 10. The work was specially commissioned and funded by the GFFIS. The festival, which runs through September 14, also features an international competition, for which four cash prizes will be awarded including an audience award. The section contains the features Adventure High (Estonia), Back to the Soil (Korea), Forward Forest Dream (Taiwan), Still, the Children Are Here (India/UK), Walking for Life (Korea), and a large number of short and medium length works from China, USA, Korea, Italy, UK, Boznia/Herzegovinia, Australia, Cuba, Taiwan, and Mexico. In addition to the Green Panorama, which features works from around the world, several special sections will be presented, including "Children of the Earth", "The Nuclear Age", special screenings of Korean TV documentaries on the environment, and a retrospective on the works of Les Blank. Finally, a TV documentary which was co-produced by the GFFIS and TV broadcaster SBS will be presented. Titled The Disaster 0.6 degrees, the documentary explores the issue of global warming, and will be broadcast on SBS after the festival.
