The 2005 edition of the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) held its closing ceremony on Thursday, July 21 at the Citizens' Hall in Bucheon.
The festival's top award, the Puchon Choice for Best Feature Film, was presented to the Canadian film The Dark Hours by debut director Paul Fox. The film, which was shot in only 18 days, is a thriller about a man who escapes from an insane asylum looking for revenge. The film also shared the Best Actress award with the Hungarian film Johanna.
Other films awarded at the festival include the German film Unconscious (Best Director), the Belgian film Nuit Noire (Jury's Choice), the Thai film Rahtree: Returns (Best Actor) and the Indian film Hari Om (Citizen's Choice).
The award for Best Short Film also went to a Canadian film: Chris Landreth's Ryan, about a cartoonist named Ryan Larkin. The Irish film The Ten Steps (Jury's Choice) and the Belgian film Alice et moi (Citizen's Choice) picked up the remaining two awards.
At the closing ceremony, the Korean film The Wind Mill Palm Forest by Jonathan YOU received its world premiere. A mystery film about a secret involving three women, this film was co-financedby KOFIC as part of a program run in partnership with broadcaster KBS to support low-budget HD films.
