- Crying Fist receives multiple festival invitations

- RYOO Seung-wan's Crying Fist, which screened at the Cannes Film Festival, Directors' Fortnight section in May where it was one of three films to win the FIPRESCI Award, has received invitations to a string of overseas festivals. In early July, the film screened as the Closing Film at the New York Asian Film Festival, one of the better known Asian-themed festivals worldwide. Director RYOO was in attendance to speak with the audience, and the film reportedly received high marks from viewers. Also in July, the film screened at the Fantasia festival in Montreal, another well known festival which places a strong focus on Asian cinema. Additional festival screenings this month include a non-competitive screening at the Karlovy Vary festival in the Czech Republic and the Flanders International Film Festival in Ghent, Belgium. Other festival screenings scheduled for the next two months include the Melbourne International Film Festival in Australia, the Athens International Film Festival in Greece, the San Diego International Film Festival in the US, the Vancouver International Film Festival in Canada, and the Stockholm International Film Festival in Sweden. In addition, Crying Fist will receive its first commercial release in China on August 10, to be followed by releases in Japan and other countries to which the rights have been sold, including Hong Kong, Thailand, the UK, France, Italy, Belgium, etc. Crying Fist tells the story of two unrelated men who are motivated to take up boxing as a way to escape the despondency of their lives. It stars CHOI Min-shik (Old Boy) and the director's brother RYOO Seung-beom (Arahan).
