- YEON Sang-ho and Netflix Team Up on HELLBOUND

- Lezhin Studio to Produce Adaption of HELL Webcomic
Prolific director YEON Sang-ho is currently putting the finishing touches on his TRAIN TO BUSAN (2016) sequel Peninsula, due out this summer, but that hasn’t stopped him from signing on to direct Hellbound (working title), a new original series for global streaming giant Netflix.The series will be based on the webtoon Hell, which YEON worked on with illustrator CHOI Gyu-seok, based on an earlier animated project by YEON. The story takes place in present day, where mysterious creatures act as grim reapers, taking bad people to hell, who are told ahead of time exactly when they will be picked up. YEON and CHOI are currently working to adapt their webcomic into a series and YEON will direct the project.Hellbound will be produced by Lezhin Studio, the production arm of the immensely successful publisher Lezhin Comics. YEON has worked with Lezhin before, having served as the screenwriter of their hit TV series The Cursed earlier this year.YEON first gained noticed as the director of acclaimed indie animations such as The King of Pigs (2011) and The Fake (2013) before welcoming global success with his live-action debut, the zombie action-thriller TRAIN TO BUSAN, which bowed in the Midnight Screenings section of the Cannes Film Festival in 2016.Netflix has of late been very active in the Korean market, having announced a flurry of new original series in the wake of the success of their period zombie drama Kingdom, which recently launched its second season on the global steamer.
