- 8th Korean Film Festival in Frankfurt Screens 15 Features

The Korean Film Festival in Frankfurt kicked off its 8th edition in Germany this month with a screening of BONG Joon-ho’s hit new film PARASITE, which served as the event’s opening film. The festival also screened two other BONG Joon-ho classics over the weekend, 2003’s Memories of Murder and Mother (2009). In total, 15 Korean film were screened in Frankfurt this year.A pair of new Korean films travelled to Germany with their directors this year, the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA) Clean Up, a New Currents competition at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) last year from director KWON Man-ki, and the hit financial thriller Money, from debuting director PARK Nu-ri and featuring young superstar RYU Jun-yeol. Money also served as the closing film this year on October 27.The rest of the lineup was broken down into two sections: ‘Art Film’ and ‘Blockbuster’. The former consisted of KIM Bora’s award-winning indie debut House of Hummingbird, the affair drama Another Child from actor-turned-director KIM Yun-seok, YU Eun-jeong’s horror-drama Ghost Walk (2018), JOE Min-ho’s period protest drama A Resistance, and The House of Us, the latest film from acclaimed filmmaker YOON Ga-eun.The ‘Blockbuster’ section comprised of the Cannes Midnight Screenings selection The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil, from director LEE Won-tae, EOM Yuna’s period drama MAL·MO·E: The Secret Mission, KANG Hyo-jin’s high concept comedy The Dude in Me, JUNG Yong-ju’s fantasy drama Spring, Again, and LEE Byoung-heon’s crime comedy sensation Extreme Job.
