  • Kevin Hart to Produce, with Eye to Star In, EXTREME JOB Remake
  • by Pierce Conran /  May 03, 2019
  • Universal to Update Korea’s All-Time Comedy King

Extreme Job, the surprise hit that became the most successful Korean comedy of all time earlier this year, will be remade in Hollywood by Kevin HART’s production company Hartbeat and Universal Pictures. The deal was struck by the film’s Korean producer and distributor CJ Entertainment, which is also on board to produce the update.

The project will mark the second collaboration between Hartbeat, Universal and CJ, following Bye Bye Bye, the US version of CJ’s 2011 hit Sunny, which was announced last November. The redo will be penned by Tracy MORGAN, who previously wrote Girls Trip and Little.

Released ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday this year, Extreme Job focuses on a police squad that goes undercover as the staff of a chicken-and-beer restaurant as they look to crack down on a criminal organization. However, their investigative work becomes difficult when the restaurant becomes an overnight sensation.

The film is the fourth work of director LEE Byoung-heon (Twenty, 2015) and stars RYU Seung-ryong (Miracle in Cell No.7, 2013), LEE Ha-nee (Heart Blackened, 2017) and JIN Seon-kyu (THE OUTLAWS, 2017). The comedy welcomed a staggering 16.26 million viewers (USD 119.78 million), second only to Roaring Currents (2014) on Korea’s all time box office chart.

“At Hartbeat, we are always seeking fun projects that tell a story for worldwide audiences, and we could not be more excited to be a part of this one,” explained HART in a statement. “Tracy OLIVER is such an incredible writer who will surely bring this story to life.”
