Rescue Drama from JK Films Due in Theaters in 2019
Blockbuster filmmaker
JK YOUN has announced that he will direct the space rescue drama
Return (translated title) through his production company
JK Film. The film will chronicle an astronaut’s struggle to return home after being stranded in a space station following an accident.
Director YOUN stated that he has wanted to make a film in space since his childhood and felt that the technology in the Korean market has finally caught up to make it a reality. Scripting has been completed and casting is currently underway, with a production start date eyeing towards the end of the year. Return is expected to be in theaters in 2019.
YOUN is one of the most successful Korean directors of all time, having become the first filmmaker to helm two films that crossed the ten million admissions mark. The first was the disaster drama
Haeundae, which soared past 11 million viewers in the summer of 2009, which was followed by the epic drama
Ode to My Father, which became the second most successful film of all time in the winter of 2014 when it accrued over 14 million admissions, though it has since dropped to third place on the all-time rankings.
