- Cineworld Signs Deal with CJ 4DPLEX for 100 ScreenX Locations

CJ 4DPLEX, a subsidiary of Korea’s leading exhibitor CGV Cinemas, has struck a deal with Cineworld, the world’s second-largest cinema chain, to open 100 locations equipped with the screening technology ScreenX across North America, Europe, and the Middle East.First introduced in 2012, ScreenX is a 270-degree screening system that projects images on two side screens in addition to a standard cinema screen. Currently, there are 142 ScreenX locations in operation worldwide.CGV revealed that the new deal, which was signed at the CineEurope 2018 event in Barcelona, Spain, will lead to the installation of new ScreenX theaters in the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel and seven European countries. A prior deal between CJ 4DPLEX and Cineworld also provides for the establishment of 145 4DX theaters across the United States and Europe.“We are proud to build on this partnership and very excited to bring a record number of major studio releases to a growing number of ScreenX locations,” CHOI Byung-hwan, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX, said in a statement.Cineworld recently reached the second rank in global exhibitors after acquiring the Regal Entertainment Group in America. The outfit now operates 9,538 screens in 793 locations across ten nations.“Our relationship with CJ 4DPLEX goes beyond accelerating the installation of new 4DX and ScreenX locations around the world, to a shared vision of the future of immersive cinema,” said Cineworld CEO Mooky Greidinger in a statement. “We are committed to maintaining a premium moviegoing environment at all of our locations in all regions, and the adoption of the most innovative cinema technologies is key to bringing our customers the best experience possible.”
