  • 2018 SEOUL International Women’s Film Festival Adds Feature Competitions
  • by Christopher Weatherspoon /  Jan 25, 2018
  • New Categories Include International and Korean Competitions

The SEOUL International Women’s Film Festival (SIWFF), which celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2018, has created full-length feature competitions for this year’s festival and will be accepting submissions for the new categories until February 28.

Founded in 1997 for the purpose of introducing cinema that explores reality from the perspective of women, SWIFF has grown to become the second largest international film festival in Seoul. Last year’s edition saw a total of 107 films from 37 countries screened over the course of the festival.

With the inclusion of a full length feature competition category, SIWFF now features four competitions: the Asian Short Film and Video Competition, the Korean Feature Film Competition, the International Feature Film Competition, and the I-TEENS Competition. The four competition categories will combine for a total of nearly USD 55,000 in cash prizes. Additionally, the non-competitive New Currents section will award a ‘Women’s Spirit Award’ which will be presented to a female director that has completed a high quality women’s film.

Detailed festival regulations and submission instructions can be found on the SIWFF website (http://www.siwff.or.kr/eng/index.html). The festival plans to announce selections in early April.

Meanwhile, the SEOUL International Women’s Film Festival will hold its 20th edition from May 31 to June 7 at the Shinchon Megabox.
