  • Busan Visual Industry Center Opened in December
  • by Christopher Weatherspoon /  Dec 07, 2017
  • State-of-the-art Building Includes Space for Production, Business, and R & D

Korea’s southern coast city of Busan announced that it has completed construction of its new, state-of-the art, Busan Visual Industry Center held an opening ceremony on December 6.

Located in the city’s Centum City area, and built at a cost of 19.5 Billion Korean Won, the striking new 12-story building boasts an 18,969 square meters studio, corporate offices and production offices. 22 companies, including film production companies, post-production companies and distribution companies, are in the process of moving in to the new building. The center will also house writers and directors.

It has been reported that half of the film and video-related companies moving in to the center are relocating to Busan specifically to take advantage of the new facility. The center plans to support an R & D center to meet the growing needs of the industry. The city of Busan has signed a contract to support film and video production as well as to establish a “Technology Guarantee Fund”.

City officials hope that the new business center can serve as a one-stop shop for video related production planning, shooting, post-production and distribution that will continue to cement Busan’s role as a key base for the film industry both domestically and internationally.

“Busan is a UNESCO film-making city, and it has provided a base for revitalizing the film and video production industries,” said an official from Busan “However, the system to connect these things to the business side of the industry has been insufficient,” adding “We hope this Video Business Center we are opening can represent Busan’s film and video industry as an internationally renowned business center.”
