  • LEE Na-young Chooses Indie Title for Comeback Role
  • by Pierce Conran /  Aug 28, 2017
  • Jero YUN’s NK Refugee BEAUTIFUL DAYS Finds Big Star

Actress LEE Na-young is set to return to screens after a six year hiatus as she has signed on to star in the independent title Beautiful Days. The film, which is the fiction feature debut of Jero YUN, will go before cameras in October before finding its way to theaters next year.

Based on a true story, the film will see LEE play a North Korean refugee who is separated from her family in China when she escapes to South Korea. 16 years later, she is reunited with her son.

Last seen opposite SONG Kang-ho in YOO Ha’s investigative thriller HOWLING (2012) LEE took a break from the acting world during which she got married to WON Bin and raised her son with him, born in 2015. LEE’s major credits include Please Teach Me English (2003), Someone Special (2004) and Maundy Thursday (2006). She has agreed to waive any upfront fee for her comeback role.

Director YUN’s name has begun to make the rounds in the last few years, both for his documentary Mrs.B., A North Korean Woman, which debuted at the Jeonju International Film Festival last year, and his fiction short Hitchhiker, which debuted in the Directors’ Fortnight program of the Cannes Film Festival in the same year.

Beautiful Days is being produced by Peppermint&Company, the company responsible for KIM Jee-woon’s I Saw The Devil (2010) and both PARK Hoon-jung’s New World (2012) and his just released V.I.P.
