  • ON THE BEACH AT NIGHT ALONE Receives 20 Invitations

Hong Sangsoo’s latest work On the Beach at Night Alone has been off to a great start on the international festival circuit. Following its bow at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it screened in Competition and earned star KIM Min-hee the Silver Bear for Best Actress, the film has received a number of high profile festival invitations, according to the picture’s international sales representative FINECUT.

The 19th work by the acclaimed Korean indie auteur, On the Beach at Night Alone has so far received approximately 20 invitations to take part in the biggest festivals of several nations, which will include Czech Republic, Turkey, Argentina, Singapore, Israel, Peru, Poland, Australia, Russia, Canada, Chile, Austria, UK, Sweden, USA, India, Switzerland and Brazil. First up for the indie title will be screenings at the Prague International Film Festival and the Istanbul Film Festival.

Distributors have also taken notice, with FINECUT reporting that buyers from Spain, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Brazil have already purchased the film while outfits in the United States and the United Kingdom have shown strong interest.

Meanwhile, the film opened in Korean theaters on March 23rd and has to date accumulated a healthy 45,000 admissions (USD 307,000). Hong’s next work will be Claire’s Camera, which he shot with Isabelle Huppert and KIM Min-hee, among others, in and around the Cannes Film Festival last May.
