  • by AHN Young-yoon /  Mar 06, 2017
  • 19 Films Were Selected Among 785 Entries

The 18th Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF) has revealed the finalists for its Korean Competition for Shorts of the upcoming event. JIFF chose 19 films from general competitions from December 1st of 2016 to January 31st of 2017, and from Local Cinema, which has started from this edition. Preliminary juries for the section are film critics BYUN Sung-chan, SONG Hyo-jung and NAM Da-eun.

The number of entries is the highest record ever. Total of 785 films were submitted; 748 films for Korean Competition for Shorts and 37 films for Local Cinema. One of the reasons for the increase of the number of entries was that students’ participation was greatly expanded, who are studying film or visual image.

One of the most prominent features of 19 finalists is that 18 films will receive world premiere except one which will have Asian premiere this year. Regarding genre, fiction films predominated as 15 fiction films, two experimental films, one animated film and one documentary were chosen. It was notable that one film from Local Cinema was included in the finalists.

The 18th JIFF will be held from April 27th to May 6th. The finalist of Korean Competition for Shorts will compete for Grand Prize, Best Director Award and Special Jury Award.
