New Orange County Location Equipped with ScreenX
CJ Entertainment’s exhibition wing
CGV Cinemas has opened its second multiplex in the United States. The three-story CGV Buena Park features eight screens with a total occupancy of 1,187 seats. The theater is located in Orange County, California, and follows the location in Koreatown, Los Angeles, which was opened in 2008.
CGV Buena Park is the first theater in America to offer both 4DX and ScreenX equipped-screens, exhibition technologies developed by CGV that have gained in popularity across the globe in recent years. The theater will provide a mixture of American and Asian films, while some of the releases will be available with different subtitles, such as English, Korean, Chinese or Vietnamese.
Buena Park was partly chosen for the new CGV location due to its ethnic breakdown, which includes an approximately 25% Asian population, primarily Korean, Chinese and Vietnamese. CJ CGV America's COO Paul Richardson revealed that the company is looking at other areas in the country with underserved Asian populations and hopes to increase its footprint to 100 locations over time.
During its first weekend of business, CGV Buena Park screened the Hollywood titles
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter and
xXx: The Return of Xander Cage along with Korean Lunar New Year hits
The King and
Confidential Assignment.
CGV Cinemas is the top theatrical exhibitor in South Korea and the fifth most prominent in the world, with 2,877 screens across 276 locations in seven countries.
