- Alpha to Invest $2.2 Million and Assist with Chinese Distribution
Korean effects house Dexter Studios has announced that it has received a CNY 15 million (USD 2.16 million) investment from China’s Alpha Pictures towards the budget of the upcoming two-part fantasy Korean blockbuster With God. From director KIM Yong-hwa, the film features actors such as HA Jung-woo, CHA Tae-hyun, JU Ji-hoon, LEE Jung-jae, Don LEE and OH Dal-su among many others.Alpha Pictures is a subsidiary of the Alpha Group, the largest animation and toy company in China. The outfit has previously participated in the financing of films such as The Revenant and The Mermaid, the most successful Chinese film of all time. Beyond investment, Alpha Pictures will help to distribute the film in China and beyond, as well as collaborate with Dexter on future works.With God, which is based on a webcomic by JU Ho-min, is centered around a character who dies and the angel of death who escorts him to the afterworld. Once there, he must go through seven trials over the course of 49 days. HA Jung-woo will play the angel of death who becomes involved in human affairs even when he isn’t supposed to, while CHA features as the recently departed.The USD 25 million production will be released in two parts, with the first expected to hit screens this summer. Production on the ambitious project has been ongoing since May 26th. Domestic distribution will be handled by Lotte Entertainment.
