  • CJ CGV’s 4DX Expands Contracts with Cinepolice
  • by AHN Young-yoon /  Nov 11, 2016
  • Open At Least 12 Additional Screens by the End of 2017

CJ CGV is making a contract to expand its 4DX screens with the world’s fourth largest movie exhibition chain Cinepolice. CJ 4DPLEX, a subsidiary of CJ CGV, and Cinepolice announced an agreement to bring to at least 12 additional 4DX screens in the United States, India, Spain and across Latin America by the end of 2017. Five of these will open in the U.S., Mexico, Spain and Chile by this year.

CJ 4DX technology was first launched in the U.S. at Regal Cinemas L.A. LIVE Stadium 14. During its first year, Regal LA Live 4DX Auditorium recorded triple box office sales of the total from the previous year. CJ 4DPLEX is expected to continue to expand in the U.S. because it plans to open its 4DX screens in Pico Rivera in California and Carlsbad in Texas.

CJ 4DPLEX’s 4DX is a special screen which offers an experience through motion-activated seats and environmental effects including wind, fog, rain, lighting, vibrations and scents. CJ 4DPLEX succeeded in independently developing and commercializing 4DX technology in 2009 for the first time in the world.

Cinepolice is the fourth largest theater chain in the world with 4,750 screens in 13 countries. It is now operating 49 4DX screens in 10 countries five years after it introduced the technology in 2011. The number of its 4DX cinemas will increase to 61, including the upcoming 12 screens.
