25th Place Debut from 114 Theaters for Korean War Thriller
Korean War hit Operation Chromite opened across America over the weekend of August 12th to 14th, landing at 25th place on the chart with a gross of USD 301,276 from 114 theaters. the film has accumulated USD 363,259 in revenue, with the rest coming from a prior sole engagement at the CGV Cinema in Los Angeles’ Koreatown area.
The period military thriller, which features a high-profile supporting part by US star Liam Neeson as General MacArthur, is still on release in Korea, where it has to date attracted 6.57 million viewers (USD 45.86 million) after just over three weeks in theaters.
Operation Chromite takes its name from a secret operation spearheaded by General MacArthur which saw seven South Korean soldiers pose as North Korean intelligence operatives and pave the way for the Incheon Landing Operation which turned the tide of the war.
The summer blockbuster will have a chance to be seen in plenty more markets following strong presales after the film’s launch at the European Film Market earlier this year.
