  • Alibaba Scoops Up Chinese Rights for LIFE RISKING ROMANCE
  • by Pierce Conran /  Aug 03, 2016
  • Romantic Thriller to Be Released in Theaters and Online

Upcoming Korean romantic thriller Life Risking Romance, which stars HA Ji-won and Taiwanese actor CHEN Bolin, has had its Chinese remake rights scooped up by Alibaba Pictures Group. APG will release the film both in theaters and online, though no date has been settled on yet.

From director SONG Min-kyu, a producer on the WWII epic My Way (2011), Life Risking Romance features HA as a mystery novel writer who searches for a serial killer with the help of a detective who is also her long-time friend (CHUN Jeong-myoung). Suspicion falls on a handsome young man (CHEN) who enters the picture, who piques more than just the writer’s sleuthing interest.

The film, which is scheduled for release in Korea in the fourth quarter of the year, was produced by Novus Mediacorp and BA Entertainment in Korea. Novus is part of the Singapore-based Spackman Entertainment, which also owns ZIP CINEMA, the production company behind hits such as All About My Wife (2012), The Priests (2015) and the upcoming Master.

Spackman chairman Charles Spackman stated that “The partnership with Alibaba Pictures to distribute our film allows us to make headway in China and reach a wider audience. Previously, our films were mostly limited to theatrical releases, but leveraging an integrated platform combining both traditional theatres and the Internet will provide more exposure for the Group’s film.”
