- Best Film, Director and Special Jury Prize for Hunting Epic
PARK Hoon-jung’s Colonial Era hunting epic The Tiger was the big winner at the 36th edition of the Golden Film Festival, which took place at the Lotte Hotel on Jeju Island on May 29th. The film won Best Picture, Best Director and a Special Jury Prize for the performance of supporting star JUNG Man-sik.Set during the Japanese Colonial Era (1910-45) when the Japanese army sought to eradicate the last tigers on the Korean peninsula, a legendary hunter (CHOI Min-shik) tracks down the very last great tiger in the region and tries to bring him down before the military or other hunters seeking profit can get to him.Elsewhere during the event, the Gold Medal for Cinematography went to CHOI Yeong-hwan for his work on RYOO Seung-wan’s Veteran, while the Silver Medal went to CHOI Sang-ho for Missing You and the Bronze Medal was taken by CHOI Yong-jin for his work on DONGJU; The Portrait of A Poet. The Lighting Award went to KIM Min-jae for The Silenced. KANG Sang-hyub took the Best New Cinematographer Prize for Spirits’ Homecoming.The acting prizes at the event went to YOO Ah-in for Veteran and UHM Ji-won for The Phone, while PARK Jung-min took home the Best New Performer Prize for DONGJU; The Portrait of A Poet, sharing it with LEE Ho-won (a.k.a. Hoya, a member of K-pop boy band INFINITE) of HIYA.
