A pair of Korean web-series have received awards at the Los Angeles Web Series Festival, more commonly known by its abbreviation LA Webfest, which took place over April 22nd to 24th in Los Angeles, California. YOON In-cheon received the first place award for cinematography on the web show A First Trip, while JEONG Hyeon-nam icked up the first place Lead Actress Prize for her performance in KANG Young-man’s AREX Airport Railroad.The LA Webfest is the first and oldest event dedicated to the new medium of web-series, having started in 2009. The festival receives around 600 submissions every year. Web-series consist of episodes ranging from five to twenty minutes and are streamed exclusively on the internet.
YOON’s A First Trip follows a pair of adult sisters who go on a trip together to track down their mother. From director KANG, AREX Airport Railroad focuses on man and a woman who meet on the train bound for Incheon Airport and develop feelings together during their joint trip.
This year’s LA Webfest welcomed 10 titles from South Korea for its competition sections. The event took place on the Warner Bros. lot in LA’s Hollywood district. Meanwhile, the KWEB FEST in South Korea, the only web-series event currently held in Asia, launched its first edition last year.
