The Hawaii International Film Festival’s annual Spring Showcase took place earlier this month, from April 2nd to 10th, screening a pair of Korean films in its lineup: LEE Yoon-jeong’s romantic drama Remember you, and Benson LEE’s US-Korean youth dramedy Seoul Searching.

Remember you, which premiered in domestic theaters earlier this year, where it accrued 427,113 admissions (USD 2.97 million), is the debut film of director LEE, who formerly worked in the script department of KIM Jee-woon’s The Good, The Bad, And The Weird (2008). The film is a feature version of LEE’s short Remember O Goddess, and began life as a Kickstarter project. JUNG Woo-sung, who also served as producer, stars in the film as an attorney who lost his memory after a car crash. He appears in the film alongside love interest KIM Ha-neul (Blind, 2011).

Directed by Korean-American Benson LEE, who has worked as a filmmaker for two decades, Seoul Searching is a 1980s summer camp-set youth romcom and drama that takes after the films of US filmmaker John Hughes (The Breakfast Club, 1985). The film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in 2015 and stars CHA In-pyo alongside numerous young actors of half-Korean descent from around the world. It was also the opening night film of the Asian Film Festival of Dallas last year.
