- CJ CGV Breaks a Record of Fastest Ten Million Viewers in China

CJ CGV has attracted ten million moviegoers in China on March 26th, which is the fastest record ever. The company, which has operated its theater chain in China for ten years, brought the same number of admissions on September 2nd in 2014 and June 11th in 2015.
CJ CGV explained the achievement is attributed by CHOW Singchi’s The Mermaid, the biggest hit movie in China. The film earned the total USD 520 million ticket sales as of April 8th. Besides, Chinese box office topped in the world for the first time in February, as films including The Monkey King 2 and From Vegas To Macau 3 did well.
CJ CGV is continuing its strong growth due to the expansion of Chinese film market. The company said that “CGV’s theaters in China marked an average growth of 68 percent over the past three years from 9.8 million viewers in 2013 to 14.9 million in 2014 and 27.6 million in 2015.”
CJ CGV is expected to speed up its multiplex business in China from now on. CGV China, which provides various promotions and services in partnership with online ticket reservation sites including Maoyan and Taobao, plans to expand its special screens like 4DX, SphereX and IMAX. It has currently 514 screens at 64 theaters in China.
