Megabox Signed a Cinema Paradiso Contract with KOICA and KITA
Korean films will be screened free of charge in developing countries.
Megabox, a multiplex theater franchise, has signed a business agreement contract called Cinema Paradiso with KOICA and Korea International Trade Association (KITA).
Cinema Paradiso supports film and video contents and movable theaters so that the residents in developing countries with little access to theaters may watch films. This project has been operated by Megabox and KOICA, a governmental ODA institution since 2013.
Megabox and KOICA have been running Cinema Paradiso in 8 countries starting with Senegal in Africa, including Nepal, Cambodia, Rwanda, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Jordan and Nicaragua, reaching 12,080 viewers, free of charge. It will expand to Sri Lanka as well in 2016.
Cinema Paradiso is expected to be a more fruitful project with the participation of Korean International Trade Association. These three institutions are planning on cooperation for cultural activities, providing Korean film contents, supporting movable theater equipment and technological advice.
In addition, this project will also provide diverse programs such as medical service, face painting and field activities, as well as screening films produced in the local language for the residents in the developing countries.
