Key of SHINee, a K-pop boy band, is to appear in
Save the Green Planet, a stage drama version of
JANG Joon-hwan’s film with the same title.
Released in 2003,
Save the Green Planet is a unique SF thriller featuring
SHIN Ha-kyun and
BAEK Yoon-sik. Believing in the end of the world by aliens’ attack, Byung-gu (SHIN Ha-kyun) kidnaps KANG Man-shik (BAEK Yoon-sik) who owes a chemical plant. Byung-gu believes that he is the leader of aliens and the film depicts various mishaps taking from there.
With only 73,000 admissions,
Save the Green Planet did not quite make a box office success but was warmly received in film festivals including Moscow International Film Festival and
Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival.
Being remade into a stage drama in 13 years, Save the Green Planet begins performance on April 9th at Art One Theater in Daehangno, Seoul. Key takes the role of Byung-gu, a kind of odd guy, and this is his first stage drama. So far he has been developing and proving his acting ability in musicals like Catch Me If You Can, Bonnie and Clyde, The Three Musketeers and Zorro.
Save the Green Planet, the stage drama, is based on the original scenario by JANG, adapted by JO Yong-shin and directed by LEE Ji-na. The performance continues through May 29th.
