  • The 33rd Busan International Short Film Festival Announced Its 54 Finalists

  • 37 for International Competition, 17 for Korean Competition, Fictions Are the Most
     

     
    The 33rd edition of Busan International Short Film Festival (BISFF) released its final list for the competition sections. 37 movies from 29 countries were confirmed for the International Competition section among 4,180 films from 109 countries, while 17 movies were chosen for the Korean Competition section within 776 works.
     
    The preliminary jury members for this year BISFF feature 13 film experts at home and abroad including Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival co-founder Roger Gonin, Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival Program Director Ismail Basbeth and the cinematographer JUNG Seong-wook.
     
    This year’s lineup for the International Competition represents 1 animation, 4 documentaries, 5 experimental films and 27 fictions. They are of various nationalities in all five continents including Brazil, Croatia, Germany, China, Holland, Australia, Italy, Turkey, France and Colombia. SHA Mo returns to the BISFF with Senior Teacher, who showed Black Fish at the 30th BISFF college exchange. In addition, Chilean director Mijael Bustos and Belgian director Kristof Hoornaert who advanced in the same section two years ago, will compete once more with Madness and Death and Empire and A Tale of Love respectively.
     
    Meanwhile, Korean Competition will be 14 fictions, 1 animation, 1 documentary and 1 experimental film. Director SHIN Jong-hun vied for the same section with Sowol-road last year and will attend the BISFF with Fangs this year again. BAE Yeon-hui’s Seol-hee and CHOI Jung-moon’s New Rapids are also great works of finalists.
     
    This year, BISFF is opening from April 22nd to 26th at Busan Cinema Center.
