Korea’s End-of-Year Hits Invade the States

CJ Entertainment America debuted
LEE Seok-hoon’s mountaineering drama
The Himalayas on January 1st, while
KBS America, marking its first film distribution deal, opened the Joseon Era epic
The Tiger in the
CGV theater in Los Angeles on the 1st and will expand to further locations on January 8th.

HWANG Jung-min, fresh off the success of
Ode to My Father (2014) and
Veteran (2015),
The Himalayas follows the dramatic tale of a famous climber who returns to Mount Everest to retrieve the body of his fallen comrade, played by
JUNG Woo. From hit producer
JK YOUN and his company
JK Film (
Haeundae, 2009;
Ode to My Father), the film has already garnered 6.47 million admissions (USD 42.37 million) and is still the number one draw at the Korean box office.
The title will be distributed widely around the world, with deals already in place for 63 markets. The North American release stretches across 42 theaters and has so far grossed USD 256,901 and is currently playing in 25 theaters.

Northern Limit Line. The film has so far attracted 1.72 million viewers (USD 11.12 million) in Korea.
