Korea’s top exhibition giant
CJ CGV is continuing to expand globally, after announcing that it will bring its 4DX technology to Africa for the first time. The screening format will make its African debut in the Nu Metro Cinema in Cape Town's V&A Waterfront in South Africa. With 19 multiplexes, Nu Metro Cinema is the second largest theater chain in South Africa.
"The place where the 4DX theater opened is at the heart of Cape Town, the center of tourism and transportation," wrote CGV in a statement. "At 40 years old, Nu Metro is one of the forerunners in Africa's movie theater industry.” They also confirmed that they planned to bring four more 4DX theaters to the African nation next year.
CGV has now installed its 4DX technology all over the world, with locations in operation in every continent save for Oceania. The exhibition will next expand to other locations in Africa, such as Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
4DX, a screening technology which offers an immersive viewing experience which includes effects such as seat motion, wind, rain, fog, lights, and scents, was first launched in Korea in 2009, by CJ 4DPLEX. There are now 239 theatres equipped with 4DX in 39 countries around the world. The technology will next begin to appear in new markets such as Italy, Spain, Denmark, Scotland, France and Australia.
