Encounter of Korean and Chinese No.1 in Theater Business

CJ CGV and Wanda Cinema signed strategic partnership on November 25th, concerning expansion of 4DX and ScreenX in China. The influence of this partnership between Korean and Chinese leaders in theater business is expected to go beyond Asia and reach the global film industry.

According to this partnership, Wanda Cinema is to open consecutively as many as 100 4DX screens and additionally equip ScreenX in 7 Wanda Cinema flagship theaters located in major cities including Shanghai and Guangzhou. Also Wanda Cinema is to increase 4DX and ScreenX versions of their own production.

Accordingly, CGV and Wanda Cinema are to produce and release Mojin: The Lost Legend in 4DX and ScreenX versions in China in December. This film is also to be released in 4DX and ScreenX in Korea. Likewise, CGV and Wanda Cinema are to collaborate on production of contents as well.

Currently Wanda Cinema is operating 3 ScreenX rooms in Beijing, Dalian and Xi’an, and 5 4DX rooms in Dalian, Beijing and Taiyuan. CGV’s ScreenX was first introduced in August this year upon signing strategic MOU with Wanda Cinema.

4DX has been developed by CJ 4DPLEX, a CJ CGV affiliate. CGV has also signed partnership with 8 other theater groups including Golden Harvest, UME, CGV China and Emperor, and 4DX screens are now equipped in 42 theaters in Chinese territory. With the partnership signing news, CJ CGV is doing strong in the stock market.
