  • RIGHT NOW, WRONG THEN Wins Best Picture Award at the Gijón Film Festival

    Right Now, Wrong Then by HONG Sang-soo won the Best Picture award and the Best Actor award at the 53rd Internacional de Cide de Gijón (FICX).
     
    FICX which opened in Asturias, Spain from November 11th to 28th, selected Right Now, Wrong Then for el Premio Principado de Asturias, award for best feature film. The film is about a director who arrives suburban town and spends a few hours with a woman.
     
    Film director HAM Chun-su (JUNG Jae-young) arrives in suburban town a day earlier by mistake. With time to kill befor his lecture, he wanders in old palace and comes across a young artist YOON Hee-jung (KIM Min-hee). They go to Hee-jung’s workshop, have sashimi with alcohol, get drunk and have desultory conversation. After all these things happened, same story repeats with another view.
     
     
    The jury explained, “The film represents humanism cinema art“ and added to highly appreciated its “radical ideas.” Main actor JUNG Jae-young who played the director, picked the Best Actor award.
     
    Meanwhile, Arturo Ripstein won the Best Director award for Bleak Street which depicts incidents on streets of Mexico in black and white. Ripstein was known for Deep Crimson (1996) and No One Writes to the Colonel (1999).
     
    In addition, the Best Screenplay award and the Best Actress award were given to La delgada línea amarilla by Mexican director Celso García and Loubna Abidar for Franco-Moroccan film Much Loved respectively. The Special Jury Prize went to La delgada línea amarilla.
     
    Right Now, Wrong Then, which won Golden Leopard and the Best Actor award at the Locarno International Film festival, was invited by prestigious film fests including New York, Toronto and Busan international film festivals.
