  • European Filmmakers to Attend Busan International Film Festival

A dozen filmmakers and one actor have been selected by European Film Promotion (EFP) to travel to the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in support of their films for next month’s upcoming 20th edition, which will run from October 1-10.

For the past 18 years, EFP has provided support for cultural exchanges between European filmmakers and Korean viewers, in addition to aiding European titles in finding distribution for eventual Asian theatrical releases. EFP’s ‘Opening Doors’ initiative is backed by the ‘Creative Europe - Media Programme’ of the European Union and participating EFP member organizations.

Many of the films that will participate in Busan have already drawn attention at major international events, such as Babai, which won the Best Director award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival for Kosovo-born, Germany-based filmmaker Visar Morina, Adriano Valerio’s Banat, which will screen in Venice’s Critics’ Week, Pavle Vučković’s Cannes-invited debut Panama, and Beata Gårdeler’s Swedish teen drama Flocking, which picked up the top award in Berlinale’s Generation 14plus section. Beyond the mainland, Corin Hardy’s British fantasy horror The Hallow and Viva by Irish filmmaker Paddy Breathnach are also set to screen.

Beyond screenings, EFP is also supporting European sales companies, including Denmark’s TrustNordisk, the UK-based WestEnd Films and Wide from France, who will travel to the coinciding Asian Film Market (AFM), which will take place over October 3-6.
