Naomi Kawase's Food Drama An Opens the First Edition
The inaugural edition of the Seoul International Food Film Festival, the first of its kind in Korea, will kick off at ARTNINE Theater next month.
The first food film festival in Korea shares its identity with preceding food film festivals around the world, such as the NYC Food Film Festival, and the Tokyo Gohan Film Festival.
Festival organizers unveiled today that it has chosen to screen Japanese director Kawase Naomi’s Cannes Un Certain Regard opener An: Sweet Red Bean Paste as the opening film. Based on Tetsuya Akikawa’s original novel, the drama centers on people at a small shop selling traditional Japanese pancake “dorayaki.” An... opened on May 30 in Japan, following its world premiere at Cannes.
The festival said An fits the festival’s concept of providing a healing atmosphere for busy modern Koreans and helping them recover the taste of life which they easily forget in the boredom of everyday life.
The festival is tentatively programmed to screen about thirty films about food, as well as hosting a food market and discussion sessions about healthy and sustainable diet.
The 1st Seoul International Food Film Festival will take place between 9—12 July.
