- Jeonju Reveals Korean Competition Slate

Organizers of the Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF) have revealed the finalists for the Korean competition for this year’s upcoming 16th edition. 118 submissions were whittled down to ten films, nine of which will screening for the very first time.Among this year’s competition entries will be nine fiction works and one non-fiction film (Park Hyuck-jee’s With or Without You, which previously screened at last year’s International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam), while three of the films hail from the graduate film school programs of Dankook University and the Korean Academy of Film Arts, including AHN Gooc-jin’s Alice in Earnestland from KAFA.Other works include PARK Jin-sung’s Island, KIM Hyun-seung’s To Be Sixteen, LEE Jin-woo’s Stay With Me, KIM Tea-kyung’s Coinlocker, JANG Hee-chul’s Waiting For the Snow, LEE Sang-min’s Warmer Than Expected, The Romance of a Mediocre Actress and a Short Bald Man from PARK Young-im and KIMJOUNG Min-woo and CHOI In-gyu’s Unconfessional.JIFF executive programmer KIM Young-jin stated: “I picked up new directors’ works, films that have their own individuality in form, and films that have high possibility of theatrical release.” He went on to comment: “I really hope that many movies from Jeonju IFF meet audiences in theaters later on.”The selected films will compete for various prizes such as the Grand Prize, the CGV Arthouse Award Distribution Support and CGV Arthouse Award Upcoming Project Support during the 16th JIFF, which will run from April 30th to May 9th.
