- SON Ye-jin to Headline China-Korea Co-Production BAD GUYS ALWAYS DIE

Yet another China-Korea co-production has been announced, this time bringing together one of Korea’s most popular stars and biggest filmmakers. SON Ye-jin has signed on to star in Bad Guys Always Die (working title), which will be executive produced by KANG Je-kyu, as well as China’s FENG Xiaogang. Taking the directing reigns will be frequent FENG collaborator SUN Hao.Also starring in the film will be the Taiwanese actor CHEN Bolin, who recently appeared in the hit Chinese film The Continent, as a Chinese man who travels to Korea’s Jeju Island with his friends, where he gets entangled with a Korean woman, played by SON.Known for her roles in romantic fare, particularly the modern classic A Moment to Remember (2004), SON recently took on a new challenge when she appeared as a no-nonsense pirate in last summer’s swashbuckling hit The Pirates, a role which earned her the Best Actress Award from the Grand Bell (Daejong) Awards.As a director, KANG is responsible for some of Korea’s biggest blockbusters, including 1999’s Shiri, which many consider to have ushered in the modern era of Korean commercial cinema, and the Korean war smash TaeGukGi: Brotherhood of War (2004). KANG also has a new film, the drama Salute d’Amour (working title), in post-production, which will be released later this year.Bad Guys Always Die will be produced by Chinese firm New Power Film, while Huayi Brothers, who part financed Showbox’s Mr. Go in 2013, will fund the project. The film’s entire shoot, which begins in March, will take place in Korea.
