  • Kino Lorber Preparing A HARD DAY for US Viewers

  • Popular Thriller Looks to Expand Its Fanbase

Following a strong reception overseas that began with its bow in the Director’s Fortnight of the Cannes International Film Festival last year, KIM Seong-hun’s thriller A Hard Day is finally on its way to North American theaters. The film was picked up for release by American specialty distributor Kino Lorber. The US outfit is planning to release the film in summer before putting the film on the VOD and home market at some point in the fall.

Starring LEE Sun-kyun and CHO Jin-woong, A Hard Day tells the story of a less than sterling detective who tries to cover up his own hit and run on the way to his mother’s funeral. After hiding the body in her coffin, more troubles await him as an internal affairs investigation closes in on him and his wife gets ready to file for divorce.

Released in May, the film was a hit at home, accruing some 3.45 million admissions during its run. The film was a hit with viewers and also a major success with critics, as it earned rave reviews in Cannes and continues to draw enthusiastic responses following screenings at the Toronto, Sitges and Busan International Film Festivals, among many others.
