  • Three Korean Films Invited to Berlinale’s Forum Expanded
  • by Pierce Conran /  Jan 21, 2015
  • AN OMNIVOROUS FAMILY’S DILEMMA also Selected for Culinary Cinema

The 65th Berlin International Film Festival has been steadily revealing its lineup and this week four more Korean films were announced for the program. Three of those, the German-Korea co-production Cancelled Faces, and the experimental shorts Antididact and Hysterics, will take part in the Forum Expanded section, while An Omnivorous Family’s Dilemma has been invited to the Culinary Cinema sidebar.

From Israeli filmmaker Lior Shamriz, Cancelled Faces, which will be having its world premiere in Berlin, takes a foreigner’s point of view of Korea, exploring queer themes through a black and white and artistic aesthetic. From Jeamin CHA, the shorts Autodidact and Hysterics, which will be presented as part of an exhibition, challenge conventions of documentary cinema.

Following last year’s selection of Gina KIM’s Finale Recipe, the Culinary Cinema section will once again feature a Korean film, this time the documentary An Omnivorous Family’s Dilemma from HWANG Yun. Exploring a personal voyage towards vegetarianism and the realities of livestock treatment in Korea, the film premiered at the Jeonju International Film Festival last year.

The quartet join the previously announced Korean films Ode to My Father (Panorama), End of Winter (Forum), Revivre (Critics’ Week) and Hosanna (Berlinale Shorts). The festival will run from February 5th to the 15th.
